- Risk Assessment and MOnitoring for BRIdges under Scour hazard
- Perugini, Eleonora (Fellow)
- Scour is a natural phenomenon and the most common cause of bridge failures. Occurring when fast-moving water around a bridge remove sediment from its foundation, this erosive action of flowing water creates scour holes. Current practices for bridge scour risk management are quite inefficient. The EU-funded RAMOBRIS project will develop a novel and multidisciplinary strategy for evaluating the risk of critical bridges against scour. It will combine hydrological/hydraulic and scour information deriving from both measurements and forecasting for structural vulnerability assessments. Based on nonlinear structural analysis under different hydraulic loads and for different bridge typologies, this new framework will estimate current and future risk, considering climate change effects.
